Common Use Cases

Trend Following

  • EMA Crossover: Fast EMA crosses above slow EMA (bullish)
  • MACD: MACD line crosses above signal line
  • ADX: ADX > 25 indicates strong trend

Mean Reversion

  • Bollinger Bands: Price touches lower band (oversold)
  • RSI: RSI < 30 (oversold) or > 70 (overbought)
  • Stochastic: %K crosses above %D in oversold zone

Breakout Trading

  • Bollinger Bands: Price breaks above upper band with volume
  • ATR: Expanding ATR indicates increasing volatility
  • Volume: Volume spike confirms breakout

Divergence Detection

  • RSI Divergence: Price makes lower low, RSI makes higher low (bullish)
  • MACD Divergence: Price makes higher high, MACD makes lower high (bearish)
  • OBV Divergence: Price rises but OBV falls (distribution)

Indicator Combinations

Conservative (High Probability)

Trend: EMA(50) > EMA(200)
Momentum: RSI between 40-60
Volume: Volume > SMA(20) of volume

Aggressive (Early Entry)

Momentum: RSI crosses above 30
Trend: MACD histogram turns positive
Confirmation: Price > EMA(9)

Scalping (Quick Trades)

Entry: Price crosses above VWAP
Momentum: Stochastic %K > 50
Exit: Price crosses below VWAP or opposite signal

Best Practices

Do's

  • ✅ Use multiple indicators from different categories
  • ✅ Confirm signals with volume
  • ✅ Adjust parameters based on market conditions
  • ✅ Backtest indicator combinations before live trading
  • ✅ Use indicators appropriate for your timeframe

Don'ts

  • ❌ Use too many indicators (causes analysis paralysis)
  • ❌ Rely on a single indicator
  • ❌ Use indicators from the same category (redundant)
  • ❌ Ignore price action in favor of indicators
  • ❌ Over-optimize parameters (curve fitting)
