Indicators Overview
Technical indicators are mathematical calculations based on price, volume, or open interest data that help traders identify trends, momentum, volatility, and potential trading opportunities.
Indicator Categories
x3Algo supports indicators across five main categories:
| Category | Purpose | Indicators |
|---|---|---|
| Trend | Identify market direction and strength | MACD, ADX, Parabolic SAR |
| Momentum | Measure speed of price changes | RSI, Stochastic, CCI |
| Volatility | Assess price fluctuation range | Bollinger Bands, ATR, Keltner Channels |
| Volume | Analyze trading activity | Volume, OBV, VWAP |
| Moving Averages | Smooth price data to identify trends | SMA, EMA, WMA |
Quick Reference Table

| Keltner Channels | EMA ± ATR | Trend following and breakouts | 20 |
Volume Indicators
| Indicator | Type | Best For | Confirmation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volume | Raw data | Confirming price moves | Essential |
| OBV | Cumulative | Identifying divergences | Strong |
| VWAP | Price-weighted | Intraday support/resistance | Intraday only |
Common Use Cases
Trend Following
- EMA Crossover: Fast EMA crosses above slow EMA (bullish)
- MACD: MACD line crosses above signal line
- ADX: ADX > 25 indicates strong trend
Mean Reversion
- Bollinger Bands: Price touches lower band (oversold)
- RSI: RSI < 30 (oversold) or > 70 (overbought)
- Stochastic: %K crosses above %D in oversold zone
Breakout Trading
- Bollinger Bands: Price breaks above upper band with volume
- ATR: Expanding ATR indicates increasing volatility
- Volume: Volume spike confirms breakout
Divergence Detection
- RSI Divergence: Price makes lower low, RSI makes higher low (bullish)
- MACD Divergence: Price makes higher high, MACD makes lower high (bearish)
- OBV Divergence: Price rises but OBV falls (distribution)
Indicator Combinations
Conservative (High Probability)
Trend: EMA(50) > EMA(200)
Momentum: RSI between 40-60
Volume: Volume > SMA(20) of volume
Aggressive (Early Entry)
Momentum: RSI crosses above 30
Trend: MACD histogram turns positive
Confirmation: Price > EMA(9)
Scalping (Quick Trades)
Entry: Price crosses above VWAP
Momentum: Stochastic %K > 50
Exit: Price crosses below VWAP or opposite signal

Best Practices
Do's
- ✅ Use multiple indicators from different categories
- ✅ Confirm signals with volume
- ✅ Adjust parameters based on market conditions
- ✅ Backtest indicator combinations before live trading
- ✅ Use indicators appropriate for your timeframe
Don'ts
- ❌ Use too many indicators (causes analysis paralysis)
- ❌ Rely on a single indicator
- ❌ Use indicators from the same category (redundant)
- ❌ Ignore price action in favor of indicators
- ❌ Over-optimize parameters (curve fitting)
